Several of the characters put themselves at risk or made major sacrifices to keep baby Marianna safe. Who do you think had the most to lose by their actions and why?
Has there ever been a time when you or someone you know has made a big sacrifice for another family member?

I kept coming back to Coquí here. His choices were complicated and not always right, but there was a clear sense that he risked everything in that moment. He had the most to lose in terms of safety and survival. It reminded me that sacrifice does not always come from perfect people. Sometimes it comes from people trying to do one right thing in the middle of a series of wrong ones.

There is plenty of sacrifice to go around and Coqui seems a valid choice, but my thoughts have landed on Isabella. She spent her life searching for her sister, searching for answers, and carrying unnecessary guilt. It was in part the choices of other characters that led her to this path. Coqui, Alverez, Alberto and to a degree other characters, all chose to sacrifice - they held the truth. Because Isabella did not, she sacrificed without knowing the full extent of her sacrifice.

I believe the character who sacrificed the most for Marianna and had more to lose was Miguel Alvarez. He had to battle between doing what is right for Marianna's safety and doing what is best as a detective in an investigation. Everything that happened had legal consequences and street consequences, so he had to choose which consequence was worth it.
I do know one friend who had to make a sacrifice. Her brother (the eldest child) passed away, and she had to take care of her mother and little sister. That was a big responsibility she felt was too early to take on because she was just a teenager at the time. She felt like that part of her life was full of survival. However, she is doing very well now and prioritizing her health and well-being.
