5. Which Relationship in the Novel Was Most Moving to You?

This book is, in part, about Bud’s relationships and how they function during a difficult period of his life.

Was there any particular friendship or relationship you found most moving?

Most moving? Bud and Tim. Their friendship mutually fulfilled what each needed. Tim brought out the best in Bud, I think, and Bud’s need for Tim’s friendship gave Tim purpose. Definitely the most moving. But I also loved Bud’s friendship with his little boy neighbor. Bud talked to him like an equal, which I think the boy needed, and Bud “got” him, which I think the boy also needed. I loved their relationship! It really touched me.

Bud and Tim’s relationship was well developed. I was really moved when Tim passed and Bud struggled with another huge loss. And that he missed Tim’s passing was so poignant. I also really enjoyed his interactions with the little boy. I listened to this on audio and the narrator did a great job with these characters.
